Features

Everything you need to actually finish what you start

Zero distractions

No recommended videos, shorts, comments or autoplay rabbit holes. Just the videos and playlists you chose.

Course-style player

Chapter-by-chapter lessons with a clean sidebar — split any long video or playlist into a proper course.

Two ways to add content

Import a whole playlist, or add a single video and let its timestamps become lessons. Your key, your browser.

Favorites & recents

Videos and playlists each get their own tab — pin what you love and keep track of what you watched last.

Private by design

Everything is stored in your own browser. No account, no tracking, no server-side watch history.

Pick up where you left off

Per-lesson progress, resume pointers and completion tracking make long videos easy to finish.

Why Focusy

Two ways to turn YouTube into a classroom

Single video or full playlist — either way you get lessons, progress and zero distractions.

For single videos

One long video → a lesson-by-lesson course

Paste any tutorial, lecture, talk or podcast. Focusy splits it by the timestamps in its description into resumable lessons.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Do I need a YouTube API key?

Only for auto-importing. A free YouTube Data API v3 key (≈2 minutes to create — the in-app Settings page walks you through it) lets Focusy fetch playlist details and video chapters instantly. Without a key you can still add videos in manual mode by pasting the chapter list yourself.

Where is my data stored?

Entirely in your browser (localStorage). No account, no server-side watch history, no tracking. Your API key never leaves your device — it's used directly from the browser against YouTube's API.

How do video lessons work?

Creators already put timestamps like “00:00 Intro” in their descriptions. Focusy parses each timestamp into a lesson that plays only its own segment of the video, tracks completion, and remembers where you left off — like Udemy or Coursera, but for any YouTube video.

Do ads or recommendations still show up?

Recommendations, Shorts, comments and the autoplay rabbit hole are gone — the player is fully custom with native controls hidden. Monetized videos can still show YouTube's pre-roll ads inside the embed; that's controlled by the creator, not the player.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The whole app is responsive: grids collapse to single columns, sidebars become stacked lists or slide-in drawers, and the custom player chrome adapts to touch.

What happens if I clear my browser data?

Libraries and progress live in localStorage, so clearing site data resets the app. Everything is re-importable in seconds — paste the same links and you're back where you were.

Ready to learn without getting sidetracked?

Add a video or import a playlist now. It stays in your browser library — ready whenever you are.
